She has 30+ years experience teaching private lessons in voice and piano. Mrs. Monser was active teaching music classes, directing choirs and musicals in the Oneonta LEAH (Loving Education at Home) community for 13 years between 2001 and 2013. She taught music at OCCS from 1995-2002 then took time off to raise her children; homeschooling them from 2002-2012. Mrs. Monser has been back at OCCS since 2012 teaching Music, Drama and History classes.
Classes learn how to read music using solfege, sight reading drills, and choir chime work. They learn music theory using theory workbooks and putting what they've learned into practice. Part singing is introduced in the early grades, starting with rounds. It progresses, with class age, until they can sing 4+ harmonies at the high school level. Performances are given throughout the year at a school-wide Christmas performance, and at smaller performances for the community at St. James Manor, The Plains, and Hampshire House.
